Flower Craft for Spring
We made flowers to go in the "v" /v/ vase today! It was a great activity to practice fine motor skills and reinforce our letter of the week (v).
Materials:
Tissue paper (multiple colors)
Pipe cleaners
Scissors
Directions:
1. Fold tissue paper into squares (I used two different sizes for the outer and inner part of the flower). Make sure the tissue paper is folded enough times to have at least 4 layers.
2. Draw a shape (I used cloud shapes, circles and ovals) onto the folded tissue paper as an outline for the students to cut. You can also have the students draw their own shapes to have more fine motor practice.
3. Cut out the shapes from the large and small squares.
4. Cut a slit in the center of both tissue paper cut-outs (I put the smaller shape in the middle of the larger shape and folded it in half to cut a tiny slit large just large enough for a pipe cleaner to fit through).
5. Thread one end of a pipe cleaner through the slit and fold it to make the center of the flower (and to keep the paper from slipping through).
6. Manipulate the layers of tissue paper to spread out and crumple each layer to give it texture.
7. Voila! Pretty spring flowers :)
My students needed a lot of support but I think this would be a fun project for any classroom. My students really enjoyed seeing the end product. What's really nice is that they all turn out so unique.

Happy March!
